BLITZ BEYOND LONDON

BOMBS BEYOND LONDON - By Brian Zelley


The Blitz of London was bad, but beyond London other towns,
villages and cities received destruction falling from the sky.

One of many sad cases was the loss of five members of the 
BUDD  family December 12, 1940 in the Sparkhill area of
Greater Birmingham including husband and wife
ALFRED SIDNEY and ETHEL BUDD.  Others were
children Dennis and Barbara Budd and Doreen.

Alfred was injured at number 4 Alfred Road, but died in
the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

In other locations there were cases of othere lost siblings
such as NINA and RUTH BARSBY.  Ruth was oinly 12 and 
Nina was 17 years young.

In February 2001, the Birmingham Air Raids Rememberances Association
 was formed through the efforts of those such as Dr. Carl Chinn,
Marjorie Ashby, Rev. Peter Berry and others.

One if many lost was 55 year old FRANCIS EDWARD PHILLIPS
on November 28, 1940 in Bootle.

The 18 year old Lilian Selley became a casuality of the LONDON BLITZ
in March 1941, but there were thousands more of all ages including
many pre-teens.

 There  was 15 year old ALEXANDER MILLS BROWN.
He died at the Walklings shelter in Lambeth April 17, 1941.
Another shelter case was the siblings Patricia age 2 and
RONALD WILLIAM CORY - 13 years lost at the
Stanfield House Shelter  September 24, 1940.
EDITH AKERMAN was 16 in November 1940, she would
not be there to enjoy Christmas or her 17 th. birthday.
She would die at Hillworth Road.

According to  "The History Place" site over 5000 children
were lost during the Blitz between September 1940 and May 1941.

Lost Family in the Blitz

Lost on New North Road:  By Brian Zelley

For Lilian Primrose Selley is should not have happened as she was expected to
be with he boy friend, but decided to join family at a birthday party celebraton
at 116 New North Road.

Lilian happens  to be my second cousin, but I never met her as
I was not born until after the war.

Also lost on March 20. 1941 was her father WILLIAM SELLEY.
MARTHA  MATILDA (Kyne)  GOODWIN and JOHN GOODWIN.

There would be others lost in the area such as 18 year old
CHARLES RICHARD LAMBERT who was lost the day before.
